Polycarbonate full-face with a sun visor, two shell sizes and both ECE 22.06 and DOT approval. The helmet for your first bike.
Why it stands out
For the price of an unbranded helmet, the Thunder 4 SV offers something not every budget helmet has: ECE 22.06 approval, the current European standard and fully road legal in the UK. It is the minimum you should demand from any helmet, and it is met here.
According to MT it weighs around 1,500 g, has an internal sun visor and a ventilation system with vents on the front and chin bar.
What you give up
- Only two shell sizes. If you wear XS or S, the helmet will look a bit big on the outside.
- Noise. Its weakest point: on the motorway, wear earplugs.
- Pinlock sold separately. The visor is ready, but the insert is extra. Worth it for winter.
Our verdict
To get started, for a town bike or as a spare helmet for a pillion, it is hard to find better at this price. If you can stretch your budget, the LS2 Storm II is lighter and quieter.
