How we review

We want you to be able to trust a score without having to take our word for it. That is why we explain where every figure comes from and how every score is worked out.

Where the data comes from

Technical data (weight, approval, battery life, range, resolution…) comes from the manufacturer's official spec sheet, which we link at the end of every review. If a figure is not published officially, we do not make it up: the field stays empty.

Manufacturer figures are measured in ideal conditions. When we know real-world numbers will be worse (battery life in the cold, range with obstacles), we say so in the text.

How we score

Every product in a category is scored on the same criteria, from 0 to 10. The overall score is not an automatic average: it is our final assessment, taking into account that each criterion matters differently for each type of product.

  • Helmets: safety, comfort, quietness, ventilation, value.
  • Intercoms: sound, range, battery, ease of use, value.
  • Cameras: image, stabilisation, battery, ease of use, value.
  • Gloves: protection, comfort, feel, weather range, value.
  • Boots: protection, comfort, walkability, weather range, value.

Scores are based on the specifications, on tests published by specialist media and, where we say so, on our own experience. We review each spec sheet when a new version comes out or a figure changes.

What we never do

  • We never copy customer reviews from Amazon or any other shop.
  • We do not show fixed prices: they change daily and would mislead you. You see the live price on Amazon in one click.
  • We do not accept money from brands in exchange for better scores.

How we are funded

Riders Emotion takes part in the Amazon Associates programme, an affiliate advertising programme designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

In practice: if you buy something after clicking one of our Amazon buttons, Amazon pays us a small commission. You pay exactly the same. That commission is what keeps the site free of ads and paywalls.

Links to shops carry the rel="sponsored" attribute, as Google recommends for affiliate links.
