If you are going to spend serious money on a touring modular, the decision usually comes down to these two. Japan against Germany, and two different takes on the touring helmet.

Weight: Schuberth has the edge
According to their makers, the C5 weighs around 1,660 g in size 59 and the Neotec 3 around 1,880 g in size M. They are different sizes, but the German helmet’s advantage is clear.
Noise: Schuberth has the edge
Schuberth claims 85 dB at 100 km/h (about 62 mph) on a naked bike. It is its big selling point and why many tourers choose it. The Neotec 3 is also a quiet helmet, but without a comparable official figure.
P/J approval
The C5 was the first helmet with P/J dual approval under ECE 22.06: you can ride with the chin bar raised. We could not confirm P/J approval for the Neotec 3 on its official spec sheet: check the label.
Features: Shoei has the edge
- The Neotec 3 comes with a Pinlock insert included.
- QSV-2 sun visor, larger than on its predecessor.
- Cheek pads in several thicknesses to fit your face.
Built-in intercom: Schuberth has the edge
The C5 is ready for the SC2 system, based on the Sena 50S, which fits inside the helmet with nothing on the outside. It is sold separately.
