German modular with a carbon-reinforced glass fibre shell, P/J approval under ECE 22.06, very low noise and a built-in intercom option based on the Sena 50S.
Why it stands out
Schuberth is the German brand famous for quiet helmets, and the C5 is its road modular. According to the maker, it measures 85 dB at 100 km/h (about 62 mph) on a naked bike, a very low figure. It was also the first helmet with P/J dual approval under ECE 22.06.
P/J means the helmet is approved as a full-face (Protective) and as an open-face (Jet), so you can legally ride with the chin bar raised.
Key figures
- Around 1,660 g in size 59 according to Schuberth.
- Carbon-reinforced glass fibre shell.
- Internal sun visor.
- A.R.O.S. (Anti Roll Off) strap system, which stops the helmet rolling forward in an impact.
- Ready for the SC2 intercom, which sits inside the helmet with nothing on the outside.
Our verdict
If quietness is your priority and you tour a lot, the C5 is hard to beat. Against the Shoei Neotec 3, it weighs a little less according to both makers’ figures. The Shoei, in return, includes the Pinlock insert in the box.
