Scores by category

Second-generation Mesh, 40 mm JBL speakers, magnetic Air Mount cradle and up to 13 hours of battery. A benchmark for group riding.

Why it stands out

The Packtalk Edge is the intercom many riding groups use as standard. Its big strength is that everything is easy:

  • The Air Mount cradle is magnetic: the unit clips on and off the helmet with one hand.
  • Voice control lets you skip tracks, call or turn up the volume without letting go of the bars.
  • Second-generation Mesh (DMC) reconnects automatically when someone in the group drops back.

Key figures

  • Up to 1.6 km (about 1 mile) between two bikes.
  • Up to 13 hours of battery, with fast charging.
  • 40 mm JBL speakers.
  • IP67 rating: it survives immersion, so rain is no problem.

Our verdict

If you want something that simply works and do not mind a little less battery and range, the Packtalk Edge is a safe bet. If you want the biggest numbers, look at the Sena 60S.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Is the Cardo Packtalk Edge compatible with other brands?

Over Mesh it only talks to Cardo units (Cardo's DMC Mesh). With other brands it can connect over Bluetooth, usually in pairs. Before you buy, ask what your riding mates use.

How long does the Cardo Packtalk Edge battery last?

Up to 13 hours of talk time according to Cardo. Cold weather, high volume or all-day Mesh use reduce it a little: on long trips, charge it every night.

Is it legal to use an intercom on a motorcycle in the UK?

Yes. Hands-free intercoms are legal. The Highway Code bans hand-held phone use and warns that hands-free devices can distract you, so set up music and sat nav before you set off.
