Style: classic vs sporty

The TCX Street 3 WP is leather and looks like an ordinary casual trainer: nobody would guess it is motorcycle kit. The CR-X Drystar looks like a technical sports shoe. It is a matter of taste, but if you wear them at work, the TCX blends in better.

Protection: a draw, with nuances

Both are certified to EN 13634 and ankle height.

  • TCX: D3O ankle inserts (soft, harden on impact), reinforced toe and heel and a ZPLATE midsole for transverse rigidity.
  • Alpinestars: a transversal protection frame (TPF), TPU ankle discs, a TPU shifter zone and a TPU insole plate.

The CR-X protects the side of the foot a little more with its transversal frame. The TCX’s ankle inserts are more comfortable.

Rain: both are waterproof

TCX uses its T-DRY membrane and Alpinestars its Drystar. Both are waterproof and breathable. For a wet commute, either will do.

Walking: the Alpinestars edges it

The CR-X is built like a running shoe: an EVA midsole, OrthoLite insole and a 9 mm heel-to-toe drop. The TCX is very comfortable too, with an OrthoLite insole, but the Alpinestars is the more comfortable for lots of walking.

Sizing

Several owners report that the CR-X runs small: try half a size up. With the TCX, your usual size usually fits.
