Ordinary trainers do not protect your feet in a crash. For not much more money you can have certified motorcycle footwear.
The non-negotiable: EN 13634
Look for EN 13634 on the label. It means the footwear has passed tests for abrasion, cut and transverse rigidity. We explain the four numbers in our motorcycle boots guide.
Where you can save
- Height: a riding shoe costs less than a tall boot and is enough for commuting.
- Membrane: if you rarely ride in rain, a vented shoe is cheaper. In the UK, though, waterproof is usually worth it.
- Materials: microfibre rather than leather.
The affordable ones we recommend
