You can spend little on motorcycle gloves, but there is one line worth not crossing.
The non-negotiable: EN 13594
Look for EN 13594 on the label, ideally with KP (certified knuckle protection). Some very cheap gloves look like motorcycle gloves but are cycling, work or ski gloves: they are not certified for a motorcycle crash. See how to choose motorcycle gloves.
Where you can save
- Materials: mesh and leather costs less than kangaroo.
- Short cuff: cheaper than a gauntlet and fine for commuting.
- Extras: visor wipers and reflective panels are nice, not protection.
Where not to save
- Fit: a cheap glove that fits protects more than an expensive one that does not.
- Palm: it is what hits the ground. Leather is best.
- Waterproofing: in the UK, one waterproof pair is worth having.
